Abstract

Dr. Brigid Barton was a professor in Art History at Santa Clara University. She is an art historian and specializes in modern European art. She was born in Honolulu, Hawaii, where she lived most of her childhood and then grew up largely in Denver. She attended Columbia University in New York City for her undergraduate degree, and she received her Ph.D. from Cal Berkeley. She started teaching at SCU in the 70s. At Santa Clara, she taught introductory art history courses and upper-division courses on French and German modernism. She was also the director of the De Saisset Museum for four years. She now teaches multiple courses and lectures at Stanford Berlin and Stanford Continuing Studies, the Santa Clara University OLLI program, the Cantor Center for the Visual Arts, the Palo Alto Jewish Community Center, and the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco.
