Abstract
Dr. Philip Kain received his BA in Philosophy from Saint Mary’s College of California in 1966. He then received his PhD in Philosophy in 1974 from the University of California, San Diego. He started out at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and then went on to teach at Stanford University’s Western Culture Program. He later became the chair of the philosophy department at Santa Clara University in 1991. He has had numerous publications, books, and articles. His main interests are in political philosophy and in 19th century philosophy, especially Hegel, Marx, Nietzsche, and Kant.
