Abstract
The continuing popularity of Catholic devotions in Filipino religiosity serves as the starting point for this study. Examining three of the Philippines most popular Catholic devotions—the Santo Niño of Cebu, the Nazareno of Quiapo, and Our Lady of Perpetual Help—this study argues that these devotions embody an incarnational theology shaped by the Filipino cultural values of pakikisama (companionship), pagmamalasakit (compassion), and kapwa (communal solidarity). These values function as theological loci through which Filipino Catholic spirituality is contextualized. Through the dynamic interaction between devotions and their cultural environment, these devotions not only serve as expressions of the Catholic faith but also become expressions of cultural values and a means for their transmission.
