Abstract

This study examines the transformative impact of the Catholic Charismatic Renewal in contemporary Catholic spirituality through a case study of the Jesus Heals ministry in Kerala, arguing that it represents an authentic form of Catholic renewal when evaluated through the theological criterion of transformation, understood as a movement from crisis to encounter, conversion, discipleship, and mission. Employing a methodology grounded in Scripture, Tradition, the Magisterium, and lived experience, the study situates charismatic healing practices within the broader framework of Catholic ecclesial life, emphasizing their integration with the sacramental economy and ecclesial discernment. Through an analysis of the structure and practice of the Jesus Heals ministry— particularly its integration of Eucharistic celebration, proclamation, adoration, and intercessory prayer—the study demonstrates how experiences of healing can foster conversion, renewed sacramental participation, and deeper ecclesial communion. It concludes that the authenticity of charismatic renewal is measured not by extraordinary manifestations but by enduring spiritual transformation and its fruits in Christian life and mission, while also indicating the need for further empirical research on long-term spiritual outcomes.
