Abstract
In this thought-provoking work, Desirée Martín explores the richly paradoxical world of Mexican and Chicano/a “borderland saints” who do not fit neatly into any official category of religion but who nonetheless represent a unique form of secular sanctity. The author shows that although these saints may not qualify as religious in a traditional sense, their effects on people are de facto religious in the outcomes produced.
