Abstract

Negotiated implementation is presented as a new approach to medical technology implementation. While negotiated implementation has been found efficacious in more general contexts, it is expected to have even greater impact when focused on medical technology. Power and stakeholder diversity are assessed as the main issues separating medical technology implementations from more general business contexts. Negotiated implementation serves to integrate stakeholder and power differences such that the technology's ease of use and usefulness are increased, along with commitment to the technology. As a result, use and attitudes toward the technology are expected to be more positive. Specific applications and future directions are also discussed.
