Abstract
This thesis investigates pathways to sustainable, positive peace in Rwanda and Burundi, defining it as a transformative process of reconciliation that goes beyond the mere absence of conflict. It proposes a hybrid peacebuilding model that merges local cultural resources with contemporary conflict resolution, Catholic Social Teaching, and virtue ethics-specifically aligning community values with Jesus as a peacebuilder and proto-ancestor. Arguing that lasting stability requires heartfelt, localized reconciliation rather than top-down political strategies, this study presents a contextualized model designed to correct the structural deficiencies of previous peace efforts in these countries.
