Abstract
In the contemporary Korean youth ministry field, problematic phenomena appear for the youth ministers that their lives move away from prayer and that they are unable to cultivate fellowship with the youth. In response to the problems of the youth ministers, this thesis seeks to present a devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus that can bring the transformation to the youth ministers’ hearts and their relationships with the young people. For this purpose, this study explores the practical implications of the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus for the youth ministers by responding to their problems through the hermeneutical method, including a description of the phenomenon/a, critical analysis, and constructive interpretation.
Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is the devotion to the love of Jesus for humankind. It contains the meaning of the entire history of salvation revealed through the mystery of the Incarnation, the life of Jesus, His Passion, and death on the cross. The act of reparation, this devotion’s special quality, emphasizes the aspect of human response with love to God’s love. Therefore, this study proposes that the devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus can re-energize the youth ministers’ hearts and enable them to build communion with the young people.
