Abstract

The article discusses the experience of Laura Ellingson, associate professor at Santa Clara University, on attending conventions of the National Communication Association (NCA). She says that the NCA leadership does some things to improve access of conventions to people with disabilities. She emphasizes that the sheer size of an NCA convention poses challenge for members with disabilities, but it provides outstanding opportunities for scholarship. She stresses that this positive impression was challenged when she has listened to scholars who considered her disability as an inconvenience.
