Abstract
More recently, pressure screens have been used for fibre fractionation to produce pulp that is more uniform and of higher quality. Careful control is required for the safe operation of pressure screens. Since the process is nonlinear and strongly coupled, current univariate linear controllers perform very poorly when tight control is required. In this paper, we describe a nonlinear dynamic model of pressure screens. Furthermore, this model is used to design a simple nonlinear multivariate control strategy. For performance evaluation, a conventional control strategy is compared to the proposed strategy in simulation, and in pilot plant experiments.
