Abstract
Small crystallites of PbCl2 have been observed on Cl2- and air-exposed surfaces of PbS. Identification has been made by observing the fundamental exciton of PbCl2 in thermoreflectance, and by the EDAX technique in a scanning electron microscope. Similar effects occur on PbSe and PbTe. The phenomenon may be applicable to a low level integrating chlorine detector.
