Abstract
The concept of Smart Micro-Grids has recently been adopted in order to contribute to solving some of the many environmental and economic issues. The environmental issues are linked to carbon-dioxide emissions resulting from electricity generation. The reduction of cost of electric power by increasing Renewable Energy penetration into the utility grid, expensive investment of power networks, and excessive loss of power due to long distance transmission of electricity to end users are economic issues addressed. This paper focuses on smart micro-grids with renewable energy as the main generation resource. It aims to schedule available generation resources based on the desired local power availability level of the micro-grid, to enhance resiliency and reliability of the system. The scheduling will include an optimum economic dispatch to minimize the operational cost. The approach will be applied to German Jordanian University campus where the photovoltaic system that has been recently installed.
