Abstract

Dean Alan Jones, in "Are We Lovers Anymore?" asks a very important question: Do we know what we are doing in seminary education? He answers in the negative and I am inclined to agree. When we do not know what we are doing we have no criteria for selection, exclusion, subordination, or ordering. Thus we can tend to do more and more things because each seems good in itself and succeed not in enriching the curriculum or the student but only in overloading both. Seminaries today seem to be the product of the stonemason who only knows how to place stones rather than of the cathedral builder who, also a stonemason, knows what placing stones is all about.
