Abstract

Discusses issues that must be addressed before Japanese style management techniques can be adapted to and implemented in American companies. For example, employee issues such as paternalism, loyalty, growth needs, job rotation, and privacy are different in the 2 cultures. There are also striking differences in the organizational issues involved: life-time employment, focused-factory concept, time perspective, measurement, reward system, company philosophy, training, interdependence, and top-level commitment.
