Abstract
At Santa Clara University, the Center for Student Involvement (CSI) leads to support hundreds of student-led organizations with different audiences and ambitions, but all aim to bring students together nonetheless. However, such development regarding student organization management proves to be much harder when administrative processes are decentralized and cumbersome, often involving numerous layers of manual work and departmental bottlenecks. Restructuring and optimizing administrative workflows would entail more energy towards the growth of student life at Santa Clara University.
The Student Organization Management Portal, or StOMP, is a web application that aims to centralize and optimize student organization-related processes, as well as increase their accessibility and visibility for students, staff, and non- SCU affiliates. While an initial digital framework and solution was composed, our team aimed to re-evaluate the scope of the project as a whole due to changes in CSI systems, and therefore their needs. Our team also strove to narrow the distance between StOMP as an initial prototype and a functional, deployable system as Santa Clara University deployment standards and live data were integrated into the project.
StOMP unifies student organization-related processes, including features such as financial and club member tracking, large-scale notification broadcasting, a repository for all important resources and tools for student organizations, and a club directory. Built with technologies such as Next.js, Flask, SAML, and Google Cloud Run, lt features are protected behind Santa Clara University’s standard security procedures and deployment methods to make this project both easily scalable and maintainable.
