Abstract
Inkomoko, a leading social enterprise headquartered in Rwanda, fosters economic inclusion and sustainability by supporting refugee-owned and micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs) in East Africa with affordable, below-market-rate loans tailored to displaced and underserved entrepreneurs' unique needs. These loans are designed to be accessible to those lacking traditional collateral or credit histories, enabling them to grow their businesses, create jobs, and improve livelihoods within their communities. However, achieving equitable growth within the organization’s social procurement framework presents challenges. In particular, Inkomoko’s vendor engagement strategy could benefit from integrating a more diverse pool of suppliers representative of the clients Inkomoko serves. This paper delves into these challenges, using strategic analytics to identify gaps in the current procurement processes. Over five weeks, from June to July 2024, field research was conducted on-site and at Inkomoko's headquarters to gather data-driven insights. By leveraging these insights and field research, the study aims to provide actionable recommendations that enhance Inkomoko’s ability to drive sustainable impact, ensure inclusive vendor participation, and strengthen the overall procurement strategy within its economic ecosystem.
